Sioux Falls, SD to Forest City, IO
It rained hard all night, but we didn’t see a lot of puddles this morning so it must have been needed. But the mosquitoes will eat you alive out there.
What a beautiful morning. Today we headed toward Sioux Falls Park to see the falls, leave the car and do a couple to things nearby before going on. We’ll still be one day early going in to Forest City this evening. I had already called to check on parking for the motorhome so we should be fine. The closer we got to the park, the road got narrower and narrower. Karl said, “Are you sure they’ll have enough room to park?” He looked the GPS and said he didn’t know if he could make the turn down the road to the park because the turn was much greater than 90 degrees and there are only 2 lanes. As we approached they had a detour sign leading us into one lane and the whole area was torn up with construction. Well, that’s was no brainer. We went on! So we reached Forest City around 4pm and spoke to Kevin, our service advisor, who came right out to look at the coach and compare his estimate over the phone to what he saw on the coach. Now to wait till Thurs. and we’re out of here. He told us where we could park for the next two nights and we got settled in.
We passed a lot more wind turbine farms in southern MN.
Karl had been taking care of all the business with the insurance and got a confirmation that they were coming out Thurs. I kept telling him to call back since we hadn’t heard from the appraiser on a definite time. Well, can’t blame him. You know the he said, she said of today’s business world. Well, the appraiser never got the message. His assistant planned everything apparently, but never told him and he already had his day planned out. And you can probably guess the rest of the story…… So here we sit till Mon. We finally got a phone call Fri. eve telling us 9-9:30 am Mon. definitely. Kevin told us we could drive 90 miles back to Spirit Lake for the weekend, the closest place to enjoy near here. Instead we decided to enjoy the time together, get caught up on the journal and work on organizing some of the photos, plan our next part of the trip, etc.
But a wonderful surprise when Bobbie and Lester from Apopka and our RVing group called. They just left his brother’s in Davenport, IO and are heading to Billings, MT. They want to stop and see us on the way. So we had 3 wonderful days enjoying each other’s company. Fri. night we had an awful thunderstorm right after they went back to their RV. They said they had bad storms the past 3 nights to the south where they were. Friday morning we took a factory tour together. We hadn’t been through the Winnebago factory in a number of years. They are still putting out 100 RV’s a day, but it’s half of what they used to put out. Lester decided to stay an extra night when we heard there was more bad weather coming. We were lucky. The storms went to the north and south of us. The worst to the south. Karl heard the next morning that 100 miles south had hail, tornadoes and flooding. It’s the same area that got hit when Lester and Bobbie were there a few days ago.
