Welcome to my Journey Donna-Marie's 2005/2006 travel blog

The mist was realy eary!

Luckily it cleared

Chris and Chad had come from the south island so they booked there bus ticket north together, and left about 8 am and woke me to say goodbye. Chad is 33 and really into his new German boyfriend. A real card, he has had me and Ruth in stitches the whole time, he is heading to south America. (Brazil I think!) Chris, 25, had just registered as a psychologist in OZ before leaving on his travels. He too is heading for South America, after which he plans to teach under privileged kids to swim in New York.

Yesterday was a really good day!

We had booked onto the 2 pm ferry so checked out of the YHA and went for breakfast in a cafe, (with a similar vibe to fat cats) on the front. WE chilled there for a while reading writing and planning our travels.

The ferry crossing went fine although the mist / Fog had been hovering for hours.

The drive from Picton to Kaikoura was really bad, with the twisty roads through the mountains and then on the cliff edge along the coast. We could only see about 15m in front of us due to the think fog. When we got to the YHA Giuliano and Niki had made us a nice pasta dinner. (The next morning I found out that a truck had come off the road over the cliff about the same time as we had been driving up there!)
