We traveled onto Leon, Nicaragua with one of our goals to go volcano boarding down Volcano Cerro Negro. We had read about this and heard from other travelers that it{s alot of fun - and it did not disappoint. I think it was my favorite volcano hike - and we've been seeing and hiking alot of volcanoes! We have sand boarded in Namibia but this is different since you{re climbing up volcanic rocks and it{s VERY dirty. We could see and smell the sulfur coming out of the volcano. When we got to the top if you just dig a couple inches the ground is really hot. It last erupted in 1999.

The outfit we went through was really great too. We wore jump suits so we wouldn{t get completely dirty and goggles, knee and elbow pads, etc. but when you{re going down so fast you still get tons of rocks and dirt kicking up. I guess from this discription maybe it doesn{t sound fun, but it really was!

Aside from the volcano boarding, we also really enjoyed the city of Leon. The colonial architecture reminded us alot of Granada but bigger. This is our farthest point and we start our bus ride back tomorrow.
