On the move. Excited about catching up with Grandma and Grandpa at South Mission Beach, Beachcomber park. Lovely drive through banana plantations, miles of canefields, patches of rainforest and mountain ranges in the background on both sides. Arrived late afternoon. Great spot, good facilities, not too touristy, beach just across access street, resort pool, overlooking Dunk Island which dominates the view. Mum and dad arrived after us and were also just as pleased with our destination. None of us had been here before and this was the one place we had booked far in advance. They had left Melbourne when it was 7 degrees and arrived at noon at 28 degrees. We are here for 8 nights.

Have been carefully considering where to base our outer reef trip from and Mission beach appears to be a great opportunity. So today is the day....we take a big 'gulp' and hand over the credit card (Guy says' "which was screaming like a distressed toddler'), enter pin and try to ignore the $600 total for four of us. This is one of the main reasons for us having travelled 4000kms. Grandpa joined us, grandma spent the day with Daniel at the playground, beach and pool. Again a good decision, for grandma and Daniel, this time not to come. Myself and Grace were both a 'bit green' by the end of the boat trip each way and none of us could safely stand for the majority of the trip. We visited the Etty reef, 40kms from the mainland. Our tour is the only boat that has mooring rights there, so quite pristine. It is a horse shoe shaped reef, which the boat just fits through and puts the stern 10mts from the reef. Beautiful coral of colours of pink, purple, blue, orange, yellow and brown. We snorkelled through schools of beautiful brightly coloured small and large fish. We saw many giant clams, of different colours, a spotted stingray and a turtle.

Tonight the kids are having a sleepover with grandma and grandpa in their cabin!
