An early morning. Had breakfast and prepared for our Grand Canyon day. By the time we left the sky was nothing but black clouds and rain! We started the 1 hour drive but decided maybe we'd wait for another day. Went into the Tourist Info Centre and were told there was a monsoon over the are and would be there for 10 days. Oh what the heck, we're not going to be here for 10 days so rain or no rain, we're going. By the time we got there the clouds weren't so black and the rain now a drizzle. Our first glimpse of the canyons and what an awesome sight. We travelled the south rim and all I could say was absolutely spectacular, even with heavy cloud and fog. We stood at one viewing area and could see nothing for the clouds and all of a sudden the clouds opened up to show the canyons beauty. We spent about 4 hours travelling the canyons to see them at all angles. I just wish it had been a nicer day but it was still amazing. Driving back the black clouds and driving rain re-appeared and we realized how lucky we have been. We have had rain but it has never caused us to alter our plans or not see something we wanted. We have been lucky. Stopped in to pick up some supplies - milk, bread, ice, DVD's. What??? DVD's? Oh well. Got back to camp and couldn't get in. There was a sheriff blocking the driveway arresting a Latino man covered in some kind of white powder! hmmm.....wonder what he was selling???? We eventually got in and Chris made a nice steak dinner complete with bbq'd red pepper and salad. The strawberries for dessert were now moldy so decided we'd pass. Guess we should have had them last night. It was laundry night. Oh joy. Oh well, a couple pina colada's helped get the job done and a hot chocolate and brandy should make for a nice sleep. G'nite!!!
