Today we traveled from Great Falls, MT to Saint Mary, MT - a total of 167 miles. We started out on I-15 headed for Canada, then to MT 44 and US 89. The Interstate was quite flat and boring. Once we got on 89, we were approaching both Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Nation, the roads became very winding and hilly. Our highest elevation today was just over 6000 ft and the campground is at 4600 ft. Tomorrow we will go into Glacier National Park. Once on the reservation, there are signs that tell you that they range their livestock, meaning no fences and you may encounter horses or cattle on the road. The mountains are spectacular and photos do not compare to being here. St Mary is at the eastern entrance to the park and between St Mary Lake and Lower St Mary Lake. The picture is from our campsite looking at Lower St Mary Lake. There were a lot of Aspen groves along the road to St Mary. We had one small sprinkle on the way, just enough to wet the windshield. Eddi got at least one photo where the camera focused on the raindrops on the windshield instead of the distance.
