ok..round two...had almost finished this entry...and the computer ate it! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So, again, sorry I haven't written..not much to write about unfortunately. We finally left Southern California after two visits to the garage and $1000 later! There goes my fun money...The RV seems happier now and we have enjoyed nice, if not chilly, weather and easy traveling. We were able to get some beach time in Santa Barbara. I loved watching my pugs dig in the sand and run through the waves. They are quite comical. Mom sat under the beach umbrella most of the time but did venture out to douse her poodle in the waves a couple of times. We then headed north to Santa Margarita (north of San Luis Obispo) with hope of dropping my kayak into the lake there and having a nice leisurely paddle...the time never presented itself. It was a lovely lake too.... Northward again to Redwood City, 25 miles south of San Francisco. Boy did I have high hopes for seeing SF...a made a list that probably needed three days to do but I was feeling positive...CRASH...BURN...We arrived towards evening and I coerced my mother into heading for the city...we had a lovely dinner at Swiss Louis' on Pier 39 and meandered through the shops. Went "home" and began to make my list...in my Internet search I found that SF was gearing up for a marathon on Sunday (this was Friday night)...I though there were a lot of people on the pier...this became a major roadblock. When we returned the next day, there were no tickets for Alcatraz until August 4, the lines for the trolley were over an hour long, you couldn't walk on the sidewalks because of the massive amounts of people...and the parking prices had tripled ...$35 a day, $7 an hour or park far away from everything and walk...so we walked and in no time my 82 year old mother just wanted to leave...my list crumpled in my hand...no China Town, no Nob Hill, no Coit Tower, no nothing...didn't even get a loaf of sour dough bread! The 69 degree weather kept us from beach time and so...our time in SF came to an end. The most exciting thing I saw was in a Target!! Yep...I said Target. Target is HUGE here and we found a two floor, in the mall, Target that had a special escalator just for your shopping cart...you slid it through the swinging doors (like on a saloon) and it took your cart up or down on its own escalator...we were amazed. I felt like Ellie Mae seeing the "See-ment pond" for the first time! LOL
So I got to drive my rig across the Golden Gate Bridge...kinda fun...and now we have settled in Bodega Bay! If that doesn't ring a bell for you, you are too young! Go rent the move "The Birds". We will do our little "Birds" tour tomorrow and visit some wineries...and I'll let you know more in my next update...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...it's cold here...not sure I'll get to drop my kayak in the bay here either....toodles
