Ancient Ruins

Sunset Crater is one of 400 volcanic craters in the area. Sunset was active around AD 1064. During its 100 yrs. of activity its red and yellow cinder cone covered an area of 800 sq. miles.

Wupatki NM is adjacent to Sunset. It has many prehistoric ruins from the AD 1000-1200 period.
