Cate and Lauren's European Ramblings 2010 travel blog

First off, we are still alive. we have just been busy :P

Secondly, Sorrento was incredible, although we didn't stay in the town itself, we stayed in a place just outside of it, lovely little place though very relaxed atmosphere. Its about an hour outside of Napoli by train on the coast to give you some idea of location.

Whilst we were there we managed to see the capri islands on our first full day and spent most of the day there although it was a late start. The island was beautiful, and the beaches great with warm water although rocks instead of sand was an experience as you were more likely to burn your feet on them than get burnt from the sun!

We also did a ferry tour around the outside which was great as we got to see some beautiful coves where the water was just incredible shades of blue and green and learn about some famous people's houses and boats including bill gates massive yacht-very jealous!

The next day we went to pompeii which aside from huge oppresive heat was just incredible to see. Although we couldnt find the garden of the fugitives which was a big part of what we wanted to see, at least for me we saw some great things like the artwork and some bathing rooms and the houses as well as lots of finds and some select body casts on display.

And dogs. Quite a few dogs, its a dog sanctuary and one even has the option of adopting a pompeii dog. I wanted one. Still do. :P

On our last night in this lovely town we met some great people, such as Loyd, the gay sydney boy who was such a character-his medical advice to me was vodka and orange-orange juice for the vit C and vodka to kill the germs! and Matay -a mexican girl who has fantastic plans to change the world and filled us on the realities of the mexican drug culture. Very informative.

Sadly though we had to say goodbye the next morning to head back to rome for one night before flying out to Dublin.

We made it safely of course, although it was a bit of a sprinted morning. what with planning to get up at 6 to take the train in.

But dun dun dunnnnn our alarms both failed to go off for unexplained reasons so thankfully i woke at 8 (our flight was half 10) and managed to get the hostel to call us a cab which we got and subsequently got there in plenty of time as it turned out. Our flight was even late departing!! Ah well the joys of travel.
