July 16, 2010 - Still traveling!
July 17, 2010 - Arrived in Palermo around 7 PM Italy time. We searched for a place to have dinner and a tobacco store to a phone card. The tobacco store was closed and we ate dinner at Diego's on Albanese. Aunt Camille made friends with the waitress, Santina. We all enjoyed our first glass of wine in Italy.
July 18, 2010 - We began our day with breakfast at the hotel. We found out about a city tour and decided to do that for the day. It was a hop on, hop off bus and it took use around the city of Palermo. We began by taking in the sights and hopping off at destinations we found interesting. At one point everyone, except Aunt Camille, tried their first gelato. It was amazing. Then we sat on the bus and rode the entire thing so that we could listen to the entire tour. We tried to get lunch somewhere but all the restaurants were closed for a siesta so the Douglas girls thought they would take a siesta also. Three hours later, Aunt Camille got us out of bed. We had dinner at the PiPi Room and again enjoyed some wine. After dinner we walked around again and had some more gelato. The gelato place was right next to a McDonald's of course!
July 19, 2010 - We started with breakfast at the hotel again. Then we were greeted by Roberta, our tour guide for the day that none of us were expecting. We got into our car and drove forever to a winery that was NOT Cusumano vineyards because they are closed today. The vineyard we did go to was called, Donnafugata, and it was beautiful. The wine was tasty and we all came home with at least one bottle. Camille grabbed 5. Then we went to Monreale. A small town near Palermo up in the mountains. There is a lookout point where you could see all of Palermo. Roberta took us to a cathedral and talked and talked. She had a lot to say! Before going to the church we had a much needed lunch. We all ordered our own pizzas and wondered how everyone could be so skinny when they serve them an entire pizza. As we were waiting for our bill Camille got pooped on by a bird. She was not happy. After Monreale we drove down to the port. Now we are back at the hotel cooling off and relaxing.
Just something to think about...
Si chiude una porta e si apre una portone.
