We had a great time today, we visited the Halifax Citadel. It is an old fort on a hill overlooking the city and the harbor of Halifax. The Citadel is a national historic site and home to a museum and a small ceremonial garrison. A lot of people park at the bottom and walk up the steep hill to the fort. We chose to drive up and park right by the opening. :-) They also have an elevator that takes you to the top walk for some outstanding views.
One of the most popular views was the Old Town Clock. It officially began keeping time for the garrison on October 20, 1803 and has served the residents of Halifax for over 190 years. We were also surprised to see a lighthouse from the fort and some wonderful views of ships in the harbor.
We enjoyed the music and pageantry of the kilted 78th Highlanders. The Citadel is brought to life by two historic regiments of the British Army. You see 19th-century garrison life re-created with the soldiers and musicians of the 78th Highlanders and the 3rd Brigade Royal Artillery. I have added a short video so you can hear the wonderful music and see them marching. The Citadel is a must see if you are in the Halifax area.
