Enjoying music with good friends

Greetings from sunny and HOT California....as you know, we are hanging around Southern California due to my mom's (Marilyn Tucker) injury. She is doing so much better but still needs some assistance with daily tasks. Her recovery is going remarkably well and she seems to do more and more for herself each day.

Since our last entry we celebrated our country's birthday, had Kaia for the weekend, experienced the All-Star game FanFest and enjoyed an evening in a local park listening to music with friends. On the Fourth of July we visited my parents during the day and then headed back to the RV park where we are staying. The LA County Fairgrounds puts on a spectacular display and we watched it with fellow RV'ers from all over the world. This KOA caters to Europeans who come to the US, rent an RV and travel all over the western US. The Fairplex KOA is usually their first or last stop and we have found them to be extremely friendly and wanting to experience as much as possible during their stay. We also met two gentlemen from Canada who were on a month and a half memorial trip for the father of one of them. We enjoyed cocktails with them and other RV'ers before we headed out to enjoy the fireworks, for free, in the parking lot outside the RV park. They launched the fireworks about 200 yards from where all of us sat in our lawn chairs. We shared stories, food and drink while celebrating this great country of ours. Of course, we had to decorate the RV, as you can see from the photo.

Last weekend we enjoyed the company of our granddaughter, Kaia. She is so easy to take care of, but you can't take your eyes off of her otherwise the radio or TV station will be changed in a blink of an eye!! She loves airplanes and helicopters so we took her to one of the local airports, Brackett Airport. The flight pattern for this airport goes right over the RV Park and they have a wonderful little diner so off we went for breakfast. Unfortunately there wasn't much going on due to the low ceiling but she had fun "flying" an airplane. We took her for a lot of walks with the dogs and sat outside on the patio listening to music while she danced away.

As you may know, this year's All-Star game was held last Tuesday at Angel Stadium. In association with the All-Star game, the host city puts on FanFest. FanFest is everything baseball to include interactive games, demonstrations, autograph sessions, displays and stores. Dennis and I went opening day and it was well worth it for both of us. There was a mini Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame) display which made us both want to hop in the RV and drive immediately to Cooperstown, New York. There were dealers with all sorts of items to purchase and a silent auction of baseball memorabilia. One that was a lot of fun was learning how baseballs are made and at the end we were invited to try stitching a baseball. I have done a lot of sewing, quilting, needlework but this one kicked my butt! I finally did my stitch and now I have a new appreciation for those who assemble the baseballs used by MLB. A bit of trivia, each baseball has 108 stitches and is all stitched by hand. It takes the professionals 10 minutes to make one ball and average lifespan of a baseball is 6 pitches! Each major league game uses, on the average, 10 dozen baseballs...we had a blast and I hope to attend an All-Star game in the future.

Yesterday, we enjoyed an evening concert in a local park by a band named "Thief". They play classic music from numerous genres, mostly rock and roll.Thief is predominantly guys associated with law enforcement and they have been together for decades. Some of the members went to the same high school as I did, South Hills. We met up with friends, laid out blankets, set up our lawn chairs and enjoyed dinner, drinks and good music. The weather was perfect and if any of you know me, I couldn't resist getting up and dancing to one of the tunes!

If all goes well, we will be traveling to the San Diego area at the end of the month to meet up with some friends we haven't seen in years....all our best o every one of you! Cheryl and Dennis
