I know we have already left Seattle, but loved this pic, so thought you should enjoy it too. Since I last wrote, we have done some neat things. We went to Ashland, Ore. and got some wonderful pictures of bronzes that are attached to buildings or free-standing. And the architecture was wonderful too. The Ampitheatre is really beautiful, and it has inspired a desire to come back to Ashland for some of the Shakespearean plays. The other picture is of the Ashland Springs Hotel. It was so white and imposing. Maybe we will stay there, when we come back, or we might bring the RV. There are lots of RV places in Oregon.
After Ashland, we drove to Medford and found a motel, then we went from there to Winston where we saw the Wildlife Safari. It was great! It took about one hour to drive through the many acres of the park, and we saw animals I had never seen, such as black yak, white fallow deer, dromedary camels, etc. It was wonderful. At one point, a Rhea came up to our car, rubbed against my door and turning its big eyes on me with great eyelashes (I should be so lucky)she (he?) tapped on my window. Another time, we had to slow to a real crawl (slower than the required 10 miles an hour, because there was a large herd of bison crossing the road, even some young ones. I also saw an East African Crowned Crane. That was interesting. And the largest cranes in their classification, called a Sarus Crane. I would love to go again.
We were driving out of Medford en route to Seattle, when we saw the sign for the Mystery House, Oregon Vortex. We turned off and decided to see it. We had read about it before our trip and it sounded intriguing. It certainly was. Really quite astounding. In the house, as we went in, we felt as if we were falling to the left, and had to cling to the railing on the inside of the house. There were strips of wood nailed to the floor to help keep you in place, or if you let go you would slide toward the center. And yet outside the house, I had had no problem standing upright. Very strange.
On the 13th, we left Medford for Seattle, and we drove pretty much straight through. We saw beautiful scenery, lots of water, lots of great vistas. We stopped for lunch at a Quizno's, then drove on. We also stopped at a couple of rest areas. Once we crossed into Washington, we found that the rest areas had free coffee available. Both Oregon and Washington had regularly spaced, very nice, clean and well maintained rest areas.
We arrived at Eric's (using Maude's directions -- that's our GPS) and arrived about 4:30 pm.
Eric took us to dinner at a great restaurant called Hill. We especially enjoyed the blueberry cobbler they had. Yumm. And so ended another wonderful day on vacation.
