Gay snorkelling

Gay and Neil in Galapagos

We are just back from an unforgettable cruise in the Galapagos. We were 12 people on the boat with an amazing guide. We went to 2 islands each day and saw different things in each place. We went snorkelling 4 times in beautiful clear water. Seas were calm. The food was great. We saw lots of sea lions, furseals and sea turtles which were incredible to swim with. We saw blue footed boobies, frigate birds, penguins, sharks, spouting whale, rays, crabs, etc, etc. The weather was good, warm in the day and cool at night. We haven't had any rain for 3 weeks.

We will spend the day tomorrow touring Quito. The hotel here is very nice, with pool, gym and a lovely restaurant for breakfast with a great view.

Neil here with a short story... in the village we visited as we were departing, including the Darwin Research Center where they do interpretative programs of turtles, we were walking through the village shops and came across a hilarious scene. A large sea lion of about 1.5m in length was standing at an outdoor table that several fishermen were filleting tuna and other large fish. The sea lion was standing against the table and looking for the handouts ...which he got often. His friend was down in a fishing boat picking through fish heads and then hopping into the sea to have his feast. Meanwhile the frigates and pelicans and a blue heron were all watching and waiting also. It was a lot of fun to see.
