Although the kids thought we should high tail it home to Bloomington, Frank and I both agreed that we were too close to Santa Fe to miss an opportunity for even a short visit and so that is what we have done today. Santa Fe remains every bit as charming as I remembered and both Abigail and Benjamin now understand why we insisted on stopping.
After an outstanding lunch of local cuisine we spent the afternoon drifting in and out of shops and art galleries. One in particular was so amazing that we had to return for a second look. I think the gallery owner was quite surprised that two teenagers would be so captivated. Sadly the work displayed was far beyond our reach. Fun to look at though.
The climate here is delightful. While the daytime temperature was quite hot, this evening we are supposed to drop into the 50s. There is much to be said for the western climate.
Today marks our last of playing tourist. The next three days will consist primarily of driving. We have a few short stops in mind, but the goal now is to get home by Thursday - barring unforeseen surprises. None of us is looking forward to crossing back into the humidity zone. That will come sometime tomorrow.
