Sunny and 95 degrees. Bobby was recovering from a migraine. But off we go to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. We learned from yesterdays excursion that we could park for free at the Gardens, so we drove the van. Arrived about 11am and found the parking lot -- FULL. Ah, holiday weekend. We found a place to park on the street nearby.
Mommy was in heaven; the place was spectacular. Hosta’s, the Tower Grove House, the Maze, the Victorian garden, the Children’s Garden... all were great! We ate lunch at the Terrace Café, "Located in and around the Kemper Center for Home Gardening, the Terrace Café is conveniently located near the Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden and the Japanese Garden".
After lunch, The Daddy opted to stay at the cafe and enjoy the AC while The Mommy, Ariane and Ryan went to the Japanese Garden nearby. Incredible! Turns out to be the largest Japanese Garden in North America. After picking up the Daddy, we made our way to the exit and left around 3:00 pm.
We drove to the 1904 Words Pavilion for a quick look, and then drove to Lafayette Park and looked at the surrounding Victorian homes – lovely.
We stopped at a Walgreen's for supplies and back to camp for an early dinner and fireworks... But upon arrival at our campsite, we discovered the refrigerator door was wide open. Since it was 95 degrees and we had been gone for hours, the temperature inside the fridge was 80 degrees and EVERYTHING was spoiled. Mommy was quite upset; she had spent a lot of money at Wegmans stocking up so we would have healthy food for two weeks – all that time, energy and money lost – not to mention good eats.
The daddy found out how to get to a grocery store. Off we go for hotdogs. Not the normal Mommy special.
But we still had the fireworks to look forward to. The fireworks by the Arch began around 9:15 and it was great watching from our campsite – a short walk home afterwards.
