Bill had to walk straight down the mountain to get this film
Our travels yesterday ended at a neat RV park in Mossy Rock ,Washington… We chose this spot because it was 200 miles from my Brothers house and driving across the Cascade Mountain Range, this is about as far as we wanted to travel on one day… It turned out to be a great decision… We arrived at Harmony Park at about 4:00 in the afternoon… That is a real long day for us because we left at 9:30 in the morning… We had a beautiful drive until just outside of Yakima when we turned off the Interstate and went west on Hwy 12.… Construction held us at a stand still for a really long time and then had to follow a lead car with a ton of vehicles behind us.. This put us behind at least ¾ of an hour but soon we were in such a beautiful area that we didn’t care how long it took us… We started upwards to White Pass. It is a real attraction in the winter but I guess the summer is not the same…. We started getting real hungry and every place we went by had a closed sign on it… That is until we came to a Restaurant/ Motel and Campground on one of the dammed up rivers that was turned into a beautiful lake resort.. Not only was it beautiful but the food was great They had one of the best hamburgers we have tasted in a long, long time….
Once we got some food into us it was much easier to continue on across the Pass…. What beautiful scenery… I took as many pictures as I could without getting sick… Sometimes I have trouble with heights and my camera at the same time.
Our campground is a little further away from Mount Rainier than we wanted to stay but it was so hot and this was the closest one we could find that could handle our air conditioner and cool us off.. It turned out to be an awesome place right on a river and a beautiful setting…
We left this morning and returned about 15 miles to the town of Morton where we filled up with Diesel and coffee from a cute little espresso place that looked like a train car… There were several stops that we had to make on the way since when we came by yesterday we couldn’t stop with our house on the back…. First was the beautiful lake that was formed because of the dam at Mossy Rock… This had my camera clicking many times before we turned off where we saw the sign for the View of Mt St Helen… We had to go there since we do not plan on driving to the National Monument this time… We have been there several times before and we just can’t do them all again…. We drove up the mountain about a mile and were rewarded with a beautiful view looking down into the volcano….Oh I hope you can see it in the pictures….
Once we got into Rainier National Park which was about 50 miles away we just snapped one picture after another which I hope you enjoy . What an incredible place… We stopped for lunch at the Longmire Inn which turned out to be just so-so as far as the food went but not so-so with the price… Oh well, we feel so guilty using the Golden Age Passport that we don’t mind paying extra.
If you have been following our blog since the beginning, you will remember that we were here in May of 2006 with our friends Garry and Jenny that were work camping in Washington… It brought back so many happy memories. This time we have my Sister Janet with us and she has never been.. It was a must that we returned to show her the beauty.
Well, it is getting really late and we have had a long day so I will put pictures up to show you the rest of our day…… Tomorrow we will move about 80 miles to more family… Can’t wait……………… Later
