Teplinsky's Trans Canada Adventure 2010 travel blog

Monday July 5th.

Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore…..

I mean, Bailey, we are not in Wyoming any more! Whoo Hoo!

Chamberlain, South Dakota. I have no idea where we this is but we are following interstate 90 east to Milwaukee. I’ll know it when we get there!!

I have major tuchas fatigue! It’s been a lot of sitting… & dozing! Some reading… passing lots of road kill… deer, yeuch.. ho hum… it has also warmed up quite a bit. Lots of time on the phone today, also emailing & texting from my Blackberry. Sam’s funeral is 11am Wed.

Before leaving this morning we drove over to the visitor center at the Devil’s Tower Monolith. Devil’s Tower National Monument is geologically much like Devil’s Postpile in Mammoth, CA. This one has a spiritual significance to several tribes of Native Americans.

After just starting out this morning we came upon a very large field loaded with prairie dogs, all over the place, going in & out of their burrows, scurrying all around, popping up out of their holes. Kind of cute, but also looked like a bunch of rats running around. I suppose it’s all perspective. 

We have been seeing many 5th wheel trailers (being towed by pickup trucks) then also towing another vehicle like a boat or ATV’s behind that. We don’t see that in CA.

We drove & drove & drove.. over hill, over dale, over the dusty trail… ahem…

We had our lunch stop at Wall Drugs, actually a whole street of stores & shops, spent only about an hr & moved on. We were there 2 yrs ago.

We also drove thru Sturgis, South Dakota. Sam would have known all about it. Sturgis is a major gathering place for motorcycle enthusiasts. It was very quiet today but I am sure it is a whole different picture when they have their special events.

At 7pm (Mountain time) 8pm (we are now on Central time), we just lost another hr., we pulled into a large parking lot at “Al’s Oasis”. We have lots of RV company & a couple of 18 wheelers too. Arnie wouldn’t approve. It didn’t get dark here till after 9:30. I love it!

I should just post the daily blogs from our trip 2 yrs ago. On a daily basis it was much more interesting.

Tomorrow we will stop off at Cabella’s in Mitchell, S.D., 70 miles from here. We don’t get near them too often. Then forge ahead into Minnesota.

Sleep well my lovely’s…..
