Since last entry we have been touring around Lima - the City where it never rains, touring the many churches and seafront with paragliding along the cliffs. We then flew to Cuzco where the altitude is over 3000 metres. Unfortunately, we hadn“t started our pills and Neil and I both had headaches and I was sick. The next day we toured local villages and some ruins but I was still sick. We were wondering if I would be able to go on the trek. Luckily, after a good sleep I rallied. We had 4 very early mornings. We had porters to carry most of our stuff and we carried our day pack. We had a relatively short day the first day. The second day we had a very steep and challenging climb because it was such high altitude at 4000 metres. The third day was long but very beautiful. It was warm, sunny and we saw incredible views, orchids, begonias, hummingbirds, swallows and various Incan ruins. The meals we had were great. The nights were cold but we stayed warm. We got up at 3 am the last day and walked with flashlights to wait to enter the sun gate. We walked about an hour or more in the dark and arrived to see Machu Picchu. It was spectacular. We had a tour there before we headed on a train and bus back to Cuzco. We had a nice dinner out with alpaca and guinea pig sampling! Today we are chilling in Cuzco. Tomorrow 12 of us from the first group are continuing on to the Amazon. We will be having 2 nights there in a rainforest lodge.
