As you know by our last entry, we traveled back to Covina to be with my mom after her fall on the 13th of June. She is home now and progressing in her recuperation. She is receiving physical therapy 3 times a week and I am taking her out today for a nail appointment and some lunch. She is still in a lot of pain but is working through it, thanks for all your kind thoughts and notes.
Dennis and I are staying at a KOA nearby...for those of you familiar with the area, we are staying at the Fairplex KOA and are planning on being there for a month. It is only 5 miles from mom and dad's home in Covina so we can be over at a moment's notice, if necessary. We are looking forward to the 4th of July as the Fairplex has a HUGE fireworks show which can be viewed from the campground. We plan on taking chairs up on the roof of the RV and celebrating the birth of our great Nation.
Dennis and I took the day "off" yesterday and took Kaia on her first train trip. We boarded the Metrolink (LA's commuter rail system) in Covina with a destination of Union Station in Los Angeles. She thoroughly enjoyed the ride into LA, she even found a friend, 3 year old Kaitlyn. 40 minutes later we were at the historic Union Station and onto our destination, Olvera Street. Olvera Street is considered the birthplace of Los Angeles and was formed by 44 settlers in 1781. It is now a marketplace with shops and restaurants along with historical sites. We walked around the shops for a bit and then took Kaia to one of the restaurants. Papa and Mema (her names for us) treated her to some Mariachi music while she "dined" on a bean/cheese burrito. We bought her the Elmo t-shirt at one of the shops; Elmo is her favorite Sesame Street characters and her toy of choice. We also walked around Union Station which has lots of fountains, water is a big draw for little ones!
Our plan, for now, is to hang in the general area for the summer and then look at doing small trips, locally, in the fall when we will reevaluate the situation.
