(Ron Writing) It was much warmer when we got up Sunday morning than it had been on other mornings. We had a relaxing morning and left our campsite at about noon. Dallas and Alice stopped over to see our "mini-mansion" and we had another short visit before they took off for home.
We drove as far as Bakersfield where we are spent the night parked at Sam’s Club. It was hot in the valley today. At 5 PM when we got to Sam’s Club it was 103°. We fired up the generator and ran the AC which quickly cooled the house down to the mid 70’s with no problem. But after the generator ran for a couple hours an aeresol can of lubricant setting a little too close to the generator exhaust exploded. We found it laying about 100’ from the truck. The way it was oriented and the way the bottom of the can blew off I suspect it went up in the air like a rocket! I wonder how high it went. It ruined the plastic box we use to store the leveling blocks etc. – could have been worse.
We got up early Monday morning and left Bakersfield at 6:15 AM without even eating breakfast. It was getting hot already (low 80's) so we just wanted to get out of town. We drove up to Gorman near the top of the “Grapevine” at about 4,000’ and stopped at the rest area for breakfast before continuing on to Orange County.
We are parked at Barbara and Archie’s house in Garden Grove again for a few days.
We had dinner with our friend Norm Monday evening and had a nice visit again. We went to “Mother’s Market & Kitchen” and selected our dinner items from their deli counter. Good healthy food and the weather was nice so we ate outside.
Today Elena had a lunch get-together with several of her friends from work. Some of them still work but the retired ones continued a nice long visit after having lunch.
I stayed around home and caught up “processing” the big box of mail we just received – all three months worth!
This evening friends Herb and Fritzi invited us and the other members of our Sunday school small group to have dinner at their retirement community. Friends Viv and John also invited their circle of friends from church in the same dining room. It was another very nice evening with good friends and good food.
