Today we traveled from Banff, AB Canada back into the USA to Choteau Montana. (430 Miles)
No more Canadian money! Now we can buy gasoline in US dollars and gallons.
I had a great time taking the Banff gondola. Today was a little cool, but sunny. Banff is surrounded by mountains and they look great with some snow left on them. The gondola took me to the top of Sulphur Mountain. The beginning terminal is at an elevation of 5,194 feet while the upper terminal is at 7486 feet. The gondola ride takes about 8 minutes. Once on top of the mountain you can get views in all directions. It was a lot of fun to do. I hope you enjoy the photos of this adventure.
Based upon the Milepost book, we decided to take a trip down the "Old Cowboy Highway" rather than the main highway from Calgary toward Montana. This did not work out that well for us, because we found out that the US border was not open yet along that route. We did not learn about that problem until we were 15 miles from the boarder at Waterton Lakes National Park, we needed a bit more fuel so we went into the park. Got some more fuel and found out the crossing we were driving to was not open until the end of the month. We had to go about 25 miles out of our way to get over to the main route south of Calgary. The road was nice, but not worth the extra driving. If I were doing this drive again during the same time of year I would go to Calgary and then come south. The bight spot was that Waterton Lake NP is very nice. I got a few quick mountain shots and then we were off.
The original target location was Glacier National Park. We did stop in for a short visit but then moved on.
