Vashti, Jason, Dori, Mom and Kiyomi having coffee in Bern
I arrived at Marc's graduation 2 minutes before it started. I met a dad on the train and he grabbed us a cab when we arrived at the Gare or I would have been super late. The grad was really fun. The parents and kids partied until the sun rose the following day. Everyone went to a bar called Las Vegas (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, including parents dancing on table...) Jason won the top student award for 1 semester students. He is still trying to figure out what that means. Marc won the french culture award and most likely to be the best husband.
The following day we went to visit Jason and Marc's pension (mom, dad, sister and brother). They made us fondue(cheese). We just read that cheese fondue is 57g of fat. Yikes. It was amazing and they were super wonderful. They said that Marc and Jason were the best kids they had live with them since they started taking Neuchatel kids in 2000. Everyone cried when they said goodbye. The town where the boys lived was super cute. It's in a valley of trees with little swiss towns clustered together. They have a wonderful view and cows walking around all over the place. We passed the Swatch manufacturing facility on the way to their house. You could see right in and see what new stuff they were making. The boys spent the rest of the night saying goodbye to all their friends while the parents went out for a second crazy night on the town.
We woke up at 6am hoping to make an early train to La Spezia. We kept missing the trains by a minute and only arrive in La Spezia around 10 pm. The scenic super slow train from Milan to La Spezia went along the coast which was stunning. We got to see an early view of Cinque Terre. We are going tomorrow to hike between the 5 towns and meet a friend of the boys for dinner. Jason had knee surgery only 5 weeks ago so he might be taking the train. We just got back from amazing Italian meal. The best pizza and pasta and the cheapest meal we have had so far. Switzerland drained our cash flow pretty fast.
