The castle at Beynac

The future supply of foie gras!

Sorry about the day in posting - too hard to get to Internet cafes. We had 3.5 wonderful days in Sarlat in the south of France. We quickly got into the daily routine of picking up our fresh baguettes in the morning, along with foie gras, cheeses, strawberries and meats at a local market, then having a picnic lunch. Now this is a lifestyle that we could quickly get used to! Our tour of the medieval castle at Beynac was particularly interesting (pictures included). We shall forever have fond memories of the wonderful rolling hills in the countryside of France.

On Sunday, June 13 we drove to Narbonne and stayed at the hotel recommended by our travel book, which turned out to be the “hotel from hell”. The next morning we took a 9-hour train ride from Narbonne, France to Alicante, Spain (south-east coast). It was quickly evident that first class train rides in France are much nicer than first class train rides in Spain.

Our first day in Spain has been wonderful, with a mixture of wonderful sunshine and sudden powerful torrential rain storms, followed by beautiful sunshine once more. The next few days we expect to be exploring the Torrevieja region, and perhaps the boys might enjoy a game of golf.
