06/16/10 Desert Rose RV Park, Fernley, NV
I’m sure you think we dropped off the face of the earth, but since Las Vegas we haven’t had internet or cell service.
We had a great time in Vegas…only had one night to explore but saw what we could. Went to Caesar’s Palace, saw the fountain show at Bellagio, and toasted Rich’s Mom at the Imperial Palace. No BIG winner, although Celeste walked away with $50+ and think Gary did OK too. Rich and I won and lost even steven. Oh, well, we still enjoyed the evening.
Our drive to Sequoia was a long day, but we had a wonderful (dry) campground in Grant’s Grove. Stayed there three nights and could have stayed forever…..it’s definitely my kind of camping. Huge pines, sequoia’s, and the smell of the air is pure and fresh. We drove one day to see the General Sherman tree, the museum, the groves near Lodgepole, and even hiked up Moro Rock (huff, puff!!!) Along the way we spotted four bears and two deer. The next day we went to Grant’s Grove, where the General Grant tree is and so many other big Sequoias; then another 27 miles took us into King’s Canyon, the roaring King River, and Grizzley Falls. Boy, did we get soaked there!! But, the scenery was amazing and it was well worth the ride.
After Sequoia we drove north to the Yosemite area. The only campground we found w/ vacancies was 24 miles from the entrance of the park, then another 30 miles into Yosemite Village. We were blessed with yet another perfect, sunny day. Our first stop was Bridal Veil Falls and it was so crowded there! You have to hike up a short trail to the top, and because we were there early in the A.M., the sun was shining right over the falls….and the mist was so heavy that by the time we got to the top we couldn’t even see the falls. It was so weird! The roar was awesome, and the creek below it was moving so fast. It was really neat. From there we went to the Swinging Bridge in Yosemite Valley and had an awesome view of both the upper and lower Yosemite falls. Pictures just can’t do it justice….well, at least not my pictures! Ruthann….you should have been there.
Anyway, we had a great day…we feel so fortunate to be able to visit these beautiful National Parks and hope we’re encouraging you to think about doing the same. You will never regret it.
One bad problem was that as we drove into the campground near Yosemite, Gary realized his trailer brakes were squealing badly. Turned out to be a busted wheel bearing and he had to order parts….it was two weeks out of warranty! Luckily they were able to deliver everything he needed yesterday and we only had to delay by one day. Today we drove to a neat campground in Fernley, NV and tomorrow we’ll drive north to Boise, ID where Gary’s two sister’s live. We’ll be in Idaho about six days.
Everyone is doing well, we’re having fun, eating way too many good meals, and enjoying the great weather here. Hope the same goes for all of you. Love your emails and phone calls, helps to keep us glued to all our loved ones. Keep ‘em coming. Hugs to Lauren and Alex who are finishing up school this week!!!! Congrats to you both.
Hopefully we’ll have internet again in Boise…..see you then!
Love, Carole, Rich, and Zeta (loving sleeping in the grass this afternoon)
