|Well we have been here almost a month now and have had enough experience with this crazy weather to know exactly why they call this Storm Lake. It seems that our days are great, if not pretty windy for the most part but the nights are stormy, yes major thunder storms and lots of rain most nights…. We won’t discuss severe weather at this stage, all I can say we have only had the one frightening night so far.
Yesterday I booked in 8 tent campers, four of which were camped close enough for us to see out of our RV windows. Shortly after midnight the thunder, lightning, rain and wind started. We were being rocked again, but not scary like the time before that we had that severe storm. The rain pelted down but we have both got really good at sleeping through the music of the heavy rain on the roof. It was 2 inches of rain and when we looked out at 6am this morning all 8 tenters’ tents had been knocked flat from the deluge. Poor people, some took shelter in the bathrooms, others their cars or trucks, but ALL of them made the decision to pack up camp and go home this morning. By 8am we did not have one tenter near us. Of course we have many motor homes, 5ers and travel trailers who all fared very well through it all….life goes on in the campground for them. It was a pity that the tenter’s didn’t give it one more day because today was as close to perfect as you could get.
Actually today was gorgeous. 70 degrees with a slight breeze and we spent most of the evening around the campfire with Gucci on a rug next to us. We are already discussing our plans for when we leave here. I think we might have plan A, plan B and plan C in the pipeline at the moment…. So we’ll see what we decide to do.
For dinner this evening I made meatloaf, those crockpot cheese potatoes and broccoli … it was yummy eating around to the fire pit with the wind rustling in the trees – just perfect!!!
