Discovering the World-One Adventure at a Time travel blog

FEB 6

Still riding on the bus, they gave us tea and a cake. Finally made it to Boomerang Guesthouse Pension in Selcuk, Turkey. Not too bad of a place, a little dark inside but Abdullah the owner seems very nice and helpful. The room was adequate, except it was very cold, no heating and it was a little cold and dreary outside. Abdullah and I headed to the Saturday market for some veggies and fruit. Really large market place with everything from food to clothes and house supplies to buy.

Later in the afternoon I went off to the Ruins of Ephesus. WOW!!! They are spectacular. Nothing else could describe the magnitude of these ruins and the work that has gone into preserving and restoring this area. The Library is spectacular and the stadium is remarkable, there was even a brothel there. Apparently until 2002 I was told they still held concerts at the stadium which included Sting, but they had to stop as the sound waves were causing structural damage and hazardous conditions. The University has taken on to restore the stadium and they hope to hold concerts again soon.

Abdullah picked me up and took me for authentic Turkish pancakes (Gozleme in Turkey) by the Seven Sleepers. We watched the elder Turkish ladies prepare the dough, roll, fill and cook the pancakes. The Gozleme were huge and amazing. Mine had meat, veggies, and cheese.........mouth watering, washed down with a beer. Great food!!!!

Back at the hostel met Alexandra and Eric, 2 Americans who live in Quebec and now consider themselves Canadian. Also met Dogan who is a friend of Abdullah (he works at the bus depot)....Hung out, drank a lot of beer and off to a very cold bed, but should be okay as I will probably pass out.

FEB 7 Jaylyn’s 6th birthday (Happy Birthday Princess)

Rise and I am not shining, it is 6 degrees in my room, and jeepers it is cold. Don’t want to get up. Breakfast, yogurt and fruit plus some toast and tea.....yummy.....oh ya watching my pants get tighter...hahahah. Sam from USA arrived.

The day was very cold and rainy pretty much stayed in the hostel for the day. So Sam and I were hanging in the hostel when about 10 Turkish guys showed up, apparently it was Mehmet, a friend of Abdullah’s 40th bday. They sang and celebrated with cake.......that’s where the story begins........Gong show pretty much describes the evening. We all hopped into 2 cars and headed off to an underground or some sort of sleazy bar to watch live Turkish singers. It wasn’t so bad except for the prostitutes hanging around.....weird night, and Dogan kept feeding me vodka and red bull (crappy drink, but of course I drank). There was this big dude that was with the group that kept asking me to dance, however as far as I remember I declined, until I didn’t anymore, according to Sam....yikes, no more redbull.....bad, and thank goodness I forgot to put the memory card into my camera (no evidence). If that wasn’t enough we drove from there to Kusadaci for food at about 3am about 8km out of Selcuk. Awesome Lentil soup and bread. Into the car and back to the hostel. It was sort of like being part of a mob, one guy would nod and everyone would get up and head to the cars.... it was a lot of fun but a weird night....thanks to Sam for making sure I was okay.......cheers
