Bec's Adventure 2010 travel blog

We drove from Periyar and arrived at the peaceful backwaters. It is coconut fringed waterways and lovely people and amazing food. Most of the transport is via ancient little canoes :) although some have little outboard motors.

We went for a wander along the river bank which was nice and chatted to a guy sitting on the bank waiting to spear prawns and fish... The prawns were enormous. But then we saw a dead rat in the river that was the size of a cat, eew!

Ravi our guide then showed us how to climb a coconut tree and got us a ripe one to eat, so good... I love coconut!

We went on a walk around the village and through the rice paddies, with a huge thunderstorm and monsoon rains fast approaching! It was really pretty. After that we hung out on the outdoor swinging chair then tried coconut toddy (beer) which was pretty nasty!
