We started the day out with a hot breakfast from Starbucks and much needed coffee. Once we got our energy up we decided to head out on a nice 'scenic' drive to San Diego to celebrate our anniversary together.

Since we are here during 'June Gloom'... the drive was pretty much foggy the way way down. However, we still were lucky to find some pretty cool places to stop.

Our first stop was at a place called Wayfarers Chapel near Long Beach. It is a church almost completely made out of glass that sits on top a bluff that over looks the ocean. The moment you turn in the drive the view is breath-taking. There are wonderful small gardens that lead you on a scenic path around the church. The designers made sure to blend the church in with nature. It fit perfectly. Walking in the church was even more exquisite than I could imagine. It was so peaceful.

After the visit to the church we drove a while longer down the Pacific Coast Highway which took us through Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and eventually stopped in San Clemente for lunch.

We parked at the top of a hill in San Clemente in their historic district and walked through the shopping area. This eventually took us down to the pier and beach. We stopped here at Fisherman's on the pier for lunch. Fisherman's was located over the ocean so our view was spectacular. This was a nice perk since our lunch wasn't so great.

Once we finished lunch we took a little stroll on the pier and then walked around on the (very rocky) beach. We got a little wet on accident since the waves there were so unpredictable. We decided to walk back up to our car to dry off a little bit.

When we left San Clemente our drive took us farther south to Oceanside CA. There was an exit a couple miles up from Oceanside that was AWESOME! It was called View Point. It was this little stop off of the highway that looked out over the ocean. The 'AWESOME' part of this was the little squirrel like creatures that were there. They were sooooo adorable! Of course the first thing I did was raid the car for any snacks we may have. I hit the jackpot with 2 bags of peanuts and some Special K bars. These little guys LOVED the peanuts. They would shove their mouth full and then run back to get more. They were so not scared and would sit there and eat out of my hand. I was needless to say overly excited!!!

After the thrill of the day - at that point... we headed to Oceanside for some coffee. At this point we were about 30 miles from San Diego and it was already getting late. So we decided to head back north to try and catch the sun inland and watch the sunset together.

We made it back to the LA area in record time... of course there was a hidden reason why that I was currently unaware of... We decided to go see the Hollywood sign and watch the sunset there. After driving through lots of traffic and driving around all kinds of back curvy roads... we made it in the nick of time....

This is where this story ends... and the next post starts...
