Whew, we made it! We left Gallup around ten this morning and our first stop was the historic Hubble Trading Post. This was really a great stop and interesting. We had to take turns babysitting the animals since it was 97 degrees and they were not allowed in the buildings. I found all the hand weaved rugs very nice.
We proceeded uphill to Tuba City for a fuel stop and then made the uphill run to the campground. In between, we made the uphill run through the magical three mesas of the Hopi Nation. If you notice, I made no mention of downhill, this is because most downhill runs were so short, they are not worth mentioning, my shoulder is sore from down shifting and do not even want to know what I got for fuel mileage today. The best downhill section was the one to Lee's Ferry on the Colorado River next to the Vermillion Cliffs. Will be planning a fishing trip here soon!
It is good to be bedded down in the pines and the relativly cool temps. At Lee's Ferry, I had 110 degrees on the thermometer in the truck.
Plan on running down to the Grand Canyon tomorrow and maybe see if we can get the boat out on Jacob Lake in the afternoon. Tuesday morning we will head out for Phoenix to check out an RV park and then make a two day run to Los Angeles where Ashley and Susan will do the movie star home tours along with Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Farmers Market, should be fun. Then it is off to the US Open at Pebble Beach.
Hope your weekend is going great.
Jim and Susan
