Belmont Street, Aberdeen - the hub for pubs

The fitting of the kilt

Aberdeen by night

The Doner Kebab!

....mean home sweet home to me. The nothern lights of Aberdeen are where I long to be".

(From the song heard sung around these parts)

We arrived in Aberdeen on Wednesday night and ended up staying at the same hotel we stayed at with the kids on our first night in Scotland. I am sure you can all guess, we had had kebabs again for dinner that night. We are going to make ourselves sick on the roasted lamb, pita bread, cabbage and onion, garlic yogurt sauce mouth-watering creation, but it will be well worth it. We hit a few of our old pubs that night and even caught some local musicians. On Thursday (6/10), Paul had arranged to meet up with Del, a buddy from the old days, to play golf at the Queens Links. But before that, we went into town to buy him a kilt (finally). We ended up spending about two hours at the store, but he walked out with a fine Bonnie Prince Charlie formal kilt. He ended up with a tartan called "Flower of Scotland" which is perfect, since he doesn't have one of his own. It will be quite a load to haul home (kilt, jacket, waist coat, Ghillie Brogue shoes, sporin, woolen socks, tie, flashes, Sgian Dubh (dagger), shirt and kilt pin - but well worth it in the long run. So, while Paul golfed, I went shopping. And did I ever shop! I always loved walking around this town and I think I hit just about every shop this day. Late in the afternoon, we were both caught off guard by a sudden thunder, lightning and rain storm. I ended up having to walk about 10 blocks back and was drenched by the time I made it to the hotel. Paul too got rained out and had to run for cover on the 12th hole. That night, we went into the University area of town and hit some of the new and "hip" clubs. Had a nice meal at a cute little Italian resturant and then some more clubs. Found some new places that had popped up since our last visit and heard some great music. A very fun night (and just a little too much to drink). And of course, we had yet another kebab to end the night with. Yummy!
