scott's travelling journal travel blog

ok, am a few days behind in updating this, so gonna keep it brief. spent 4days on perhentian having travelled 18 hours to get there. what can i say? one of the most beautiful, chilled places ive ever been to. didn't really do much due to having fallen and twisted both my ankle and knee on the way there so was pretty much out of action for 1st few days so just "had to" lie on a beach for a few days. life's a bitch eh!!! lmao

went on a snorkelling trip on the 28th. was another one of those days that left me completely torn: saw some amazing fish, sharks and coral but was put in a foul mood about the impact all these trips is having on the sealife. all of the trips are supposedly eco certified but the tour guide was chasing turtles, standing on coral and encouraging others to do so (despite the fact they beg u not to as it kills the coral) and it just pissed me right off. the afternoon was better, found some really strange stuff just off a beach (sea cucumbers, giant clams with pulsating multicoloured lips) and then got surrounded by fish desperate to eat my feet!!!

met some fantastic people while there, never spent too much time on my own and also spent most days with different people so there was some variety. travelled there with 2 guys i met in langkawi (1 of whom turns out knows my brother tom, and then we later discovered that we used to live in the same road!!). also had a night out with some swedish girls, another with a geordie called david and a canadian chick called emma, and another with david and a couple whose name i completely forgot to ask!!

really nice place all in all, just a bit of hastle when u first get there as you can't book accomodation in advance and also its the most expensive place ive been to so far.
