First stop South America (then NZ, Oz & South East Asia) travel blog

Halong Bay is a series of over 3000 islands rising out of the waters off the coast of Northern Vietnam. It is a truly beautiful place. And very interesting too as there is a community of people living on floating islands making a living out of fishing or selling goods to tourists on the many boats that sail the waters daily. There is even a floating school. I spent a day and a night on a boat sailing through the islands. It was awesome. The sunset was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I spent my second night in Halong Bay on 'Monkey Island' which is one of the largest of the 3000 islands. It is a resort island with no-one living there so we had the beach to ourselves. I stayed the night in a bungalow on the beach. It is a very nice place to wake up.
