The Big Trip with Nick & Ange travel blog

We had a day trip today out to the Angus coast, taking in Montrose, Arbroath, Carnoustie and Dundee.

Just south of Montrose is a gorgeous beach on Lunan Bay, which was huge and pretty deserted apart from a couple of horses and dog-walkers. I should point out that the horses had riders, they weren't just wandering, although that would have been pretty cool.

We headed south to Arbroath after that, home of the famous smokies, and we had to buy a couple of course. We went for a walk up on Seaton Cliffs, which have been eroded into some amazing clefts and stacks, with evocative names like the Needle's E'e, and the Deil's Heid. Something we need to bear in mind though, Doug doesn't seem to understand the concept of sheer cliffs. I'm not going in after him.

We took in the rest of the coast around to Dundee, but to be honest the weather was rubbish and we soon headed back to the comfort of the Brand residence.

A few days off now, as we catch up with family, and we have Alison and Phil's wedding in Dundee on Saturday. We head off again on Monday 31st to finish off our amazing tour of Scotland with Fife and the borders. See you then.....
