Got a slow start this morning, checking out of our hotel and had to get everything put together in our bags. The hotel allowed us to store our bags, since our train did not leave until 9:05 pm.
Jeff got up earlier than I did, yes I know again! He said he walked a couple of miles looking for a laundry mat, but never found one.
There is a shop in Barcelona called El Courte Ingles’ that we went shopping at. I am sure that this store had 6 floors of stuff, anything you would want from sporting goods, clothes, make-up, electronics and even a grocery store. In there somewhere we found a dry cleaner and a travel agent! They had 3 floors of parking! It was overwhelming!
We then got on the Tourist bus again and went to the north of the city. The architecture of this city is just amazing. When we were down in the Gothic Quarter, there were several places that were marred with graffiti. It is so sad, because the folks that do that don’t really know what they have. But anyways, the buildings in the north part of the city are amazing also. We went into another church, again smaller in size, but incredible. Jeff was in shorts and felt like he should not be there, so we did not stay long.
Another thing that is great here are the bakeries. The bread is made fresh everyday and is so good! We also had macaroons strawberry, chocolate & lemon that melted in your mouth also a mini key lime pie with a dark chocolate shell that was exquisite. Tonight for dinner, on the train, in our closet size room, Jeff and I had bread, cheese and wine! The wine was okay, especially since it only cost $2!!
We came back to our hotel, grabbed our bags and got a taxi for the train station. We were going to take the Metro, but there was another fotbol game going on and being a half mile from the stadium, it was crazy out there! So we thought a taxi would have been a safe choice to get to the train station. Okay, maybe a safe choice, but our taxi driver, all I can say is that I am glad we made it to the station. He drove crazy, in and out, between cars and buses. I had to look away several times!
We thought there would be lockers at the train station for our bags, but there wasn’t. Jeff ventured out into the city again and I stayed and watched the bags. He found the spice shop that we were looking for on Monday and really thought it was neat. He bought a small amount of saffron and smoked paprika. They also roasted nuts there and bought some roasted almonds. Good!!
So we finally got on the train for Paris. I have not had a chance to update my travel journal today and am writing this on the train in Word and hopefully will post on Thursday. We have a very small room to ourselves with 2 chairs that fold down and 2 small twins fold out of the wall to sleep in. We should arrive in Paris at 9 am and meeting our French cousin Phillipe, who will then help us to the train to Ameins on Thursday.
