First stop South America (then NZ, Oz & South East Asia) travel blog

Vientiane is the capital of Laos. It is the smallest capital city I have ever been to with a population of just 350k. As far as I could see there is just one high rise building in the entire city. I had to stay here for a few days while I waited for my visa for Vietnam. There's really not much to do here but at the same time its actually quite a pleasant place to stay for a few days as there are bars, restaurants and bakeries everywhere. Walking through the streets after dark I would be regularly propositioned by 'ladies' with broader shoulders and deeper voices than a 'lady' should have. There's obviously a market for this type of thing given the number of them who walk or ride through the streets on mopeds. I haven't yet acclimatised to the heat of South East Asia, and am starting to think I never will, so again I had to do very little at a very slow pace whilst here. I endured a very sweaty 45 minute journey on an overcrowded public bus to visit a place called Buddha Park where there's hundreds of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, some of which are a little bit weird.
