For Mother's Day we decided to join lots of other moms and kids - human and animal - and went to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. For 5 hours we walked around all the exhibits - so changed from when we were kids. Much more attention is paid to natural habitats. While we enjoyed looking at and learning about all the animals, I am conflicted about the existence of zoos. They are a great learning tool especially for kids, but certainly not an ideal situation for the animals. Are computers, books and TV enough or do we need to see the animals in person to really appreciate them. I know standing next to a giraffe today was a powerful experience. I don't think I've ever really understood what a tall, gorgeous animal it is. Watching the Mom and Dad stork switch places to sit on their nest of eggs was also very moving.
I took 236 pictures at the zoo. Tried not to pick out too many to include above.
