Hello Again!
Now, I hope to get ya'll up to date. From Atlanta, we went to:
Pine Mountain, Ga - Callaway Gardens - famous gardens where much of PBS's Crockett's Victory Garden was televised. In addition to gardens, they are a resort with lakes and a golf course. Very picturesque. We spent the night with another wonderful Evergreen host. Her house was like a dollhouse, complete with children's table & chairs and teddy bears.
Warm Springs - FD Roosevelt's home, called, "The Little White House". FDR came here to see if the warm waters would help his paralysis. He died here during his last visit. A short distance from there was the fish hatchery, where we got a unscheduled tour by one of the staff. We arrived at our Servas host late that afternoon in Macon, Georgia. They had a house over 100 years old and full of things collected from their travels. They also owned 25 acres, which contained beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, a fish pond filled with koi and a covered patio with bar. This place was really incredible, and it is amazing that they were so willing to welcome strangers into their home. Lilliam was happy to sleep in an antique 4-poster bed. However, the mattress was so high that she inadvertently fell out of bed in the morning...and hasn't been the same since! (only kidding.)
Yesterday, we arrived in Savannah. Today, we took a tour of the city, where they pointed out the historic and Victorian areas. It was a beautiful spring day and great for walking and picture-taking. We are staying with an Evergreen host a little outside of the city on an island. We can see the wetlands from our bedroom window. I woke up at 6:30 am this morning and the sun was so perfect that I ran out of the house to take pictures.
Well, finally, ya'll are up to date. Now take a loooooong nap before the next installment.
Stay well & have fun,
Julie
