Where And When In 2010 travel blog

The Linville River just above the falls.

Linville Falls from the path above.

Me, at Linville Falls overlook.

Turbulence below the falls gives another beautiful view.

You can see how the water managed to wear away the rocks.

The colors of the rocks, and the patterns are just as pretty...

Water gushes through the narrow pathway.

Too many pretty pictures make it hard to choose! Hope you enjoy...

We met a gentleman on the trail. Positive proof that Steve is...

Lower Linville Falls with the upper falls in the background.

This is as close as we could get to the lower falls.

Another pretty shot of the Upper and Lower Linville Falls.

Hanging Rock State Park, view from the rock.

Not me, waving from the edge of Hanging Rock.

Downtown Mayberry, aka Mt. Airy, in color.

Did Andy and Opie go to this Cinema?

This is Opie's Candy Store.

On line after a fried pork sandwich at Snappy Lunch. Andy Griffith...

It seems we got there just before everyone else!

View of the Mayberry businesses from across the street.

What a lollipop!

We got to Advance, North Carolina, on Monday, April 26. We stayed at the best Thousand Trails park ever, with frequent visits from Eastern Bluebirds (God's version, not motorhomes) goldfinches, and thrashers. While on our morning walks through the nature trails, we usually saw groups of white-tailed deer. The place was awesome! The Blue Ridge Mountains and Hanging Rock State Park were near enough to ride to, and so was Mt. Airy, the birthplace of Andy Griffith and the setting for The Andy Griffith Show. We took pictures of Linville Falls on our ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There was not much at Hanging Rock, but we did get a shot of a brave young lady sitting on the rock. Mt. Airy, aka Mayberry, was a hoot. We went to Snappy Lunch, and walked around a bit. The City Jail was closed, as it is now a local business and we went on Saturday, but you can take a tour of Mayberry in a squad car that looks just like the one on TV.
