First stop South America (then NZ, Oz & South East Asia) travel blog

I had a flight from Medan so I had to stay the night here. I had already passed through here a couple of times on my way to Bukit Lawang and Berastagi so I knew what to expect. There was a pretty impressive mosque but other than that the place was just a huge headache of traffic, pollution and beeping horns. Therefore, i'm ashamed to say that I spent most of my time here in the sanctity of a huge air conditioned western style shopping mall. I have never been stared at as much in my entire life. It was funny seeing peoples reaction when they saw me, the only westerner in the mall that day. They would laugh, stare, point me out to their friends or attempt conversation. I didn't count but I think I had to respond over 100 times to shouts of 'hello mister'. I actually enjoyed being a celebrity for the day!
