We had a fairly easy drive to Grapevine, TX . Grapevine is located on the North end of Dallas just north of the DFW airport. We took the route around Forth Worth instead og going thru downtown Dallas. We did real good until about the last 15 miles and then ran into some slow stop and go traffic due to a truck off the side of the road that caused the gawkers to hold up all traffic.
It didn’t take us long to get set up at one of our favorite campgrounds. We are on Lake Grapevine and it is a beautiful setting. Only problem we have is that our site is only available until Friday and then we have to move to a site that does not have sewer hook-ups. Not a big problem but a big pain in the neck.
We talked to my step-daughter when we arrived and she wanted us to come over as soon as possible. We didn’t know that she had planned on having dinner for the whole family but when we got there that is exactly what happened… I have two step children living in Dallas and two grandkids. The kids both belong to Sheryl and Paul does not have any. Paul has a darling wife Sherri but she has been out of town all week so we will not get a chance to see her. We had a great dinner that night and by the time Bill and I left to go back to Grapevine, we were beat. I sure couldn’t take the hectic pace these families go thru now. WOW. The grandkids are Adam and Sydney, ages 18 and 16. Adam will be graduating in about three weeks and Sydney will be finishing her Freshman year in high school. Both of the kids are very active and into everything.
It is about 20 miles from Grapevine to the Dallas Suburbs where Sheryl lives but we went back the next day in time to pick up Sydney from school and take her to the dentist, shop at Costco’s and return to their house for another dinner.. The next day we drove Sydney to school because her Mom was working and needed her car. After dropping her at school we went to Downtown Dallas where Paul has an Art Gallery in the Warehouse District. It is hard to explain Paul’s business but it is called “Select Art” and that is exactly what it is.. Artists from all over the world bring their Art to Paul and he displays it in his gallery for business’s to buy. Did you ever wonder when you walk into a lobby of a big firm or hotel where they got all those neat sculptures or pictures etc. Well most of them have employees that work on a budget to find these things and Paul makes it easy for them by having many different styles and designs all under one roof from hundreds of artists. He bought several old buildings in the warehouse district a few blocks from downtown Dallas and renovated them to some very up-scale offices. Part of his building is turned into an living area for he and Sherry during the week and they go to their lake home on the weekends. When Bill and I went to visit him I almost started to cry. We were both overwhelmed with the beauty of his Art and the way it was displayed. The economy may be in a slump but Paul is having the best year ever in the twenty four years he has been doing this. Way to go Paul…. Your Dad would have been so proud.
After leaving Paul’s, we made our way again through downtown Dallas and back to Sheryl’s where we spent the afternoon laying around the pool and relaxing. In fact, Bill and I even took a snooze. It was beautiful weather and so enjoyable…
Soon the kids were both home from school and there after school activities and we all went out to what is starting to be a tradition of a dinner at Sweet Tomato’s… Last year when we were here was the first time any of us had been there and we all wanted to return, We drove home during a beautiful sunset but too much traffic to get really good pictures. I did the best I could though.
The next two days we will let them do their own things and we will catch up with them on the weekend. Come back to see what we find to do on our own….. Later……
