Drove to Lagos de Montebello Aguantita...many beautiful azure blue lakes amid forested pine landscape with bromeliads and moss growing from the trees. There was a cute little girl in the parking lot that recited a poem for us in hopes that we would give her money. She was a bit frustrated by a mistake she made (although we wouldn't have known the difference), rolled her eyes and started over until she got it right...so sweet.
Moved on to look for someplace to spend the night. Found a cabana by the lake in the small town of Tziscao. The last visitor here was in Septemeber 09! As we entered this town there was a checkpoint booth where they ask who you are and where you're from...to keep track of what's going on in their town I guess.
Took a walk through the town after dark in search of somewhere to eat...found a restaurant called 3 Bandera's Cafe Organica. It was actually the front part of someone's home. They prepared a wonderful fried fish with potatoes (papas), black beans, salad and tortillas. When we asked if we could order a beer they said sure, even though they didn't have any they sent a family member in their car to get some. They served the beer warm, with salt and lime. It was actually very good. The mother of the house sat nearby to make sure we had everything we needed. What a wonderful dinner!!
