Athens traffic on a Saturday night

Lovely Greek Dancing Boy!

Lorraine and Dot at the Greek Taverna, our first meeting with Christelle...

This morning we were picked up just after 7.00 am for our transfer to Istanbul Airport. We flew with Olympic Airways to Athens and had arranged a transfer to our Hotel, the President as part of our cruise package.

The President Hotel was located somewhat out of the centre of town and was host to a group of children participating in the World Synchronised Swimming Championships. Therefore security was tight and on entering and leaving the Hotel, any bags or coats had to be put through an X-ray machine.

After checking in, we took a walk down the main street where there were some quite upmarket shops but this being Saturday, most of them were closed. We did find a street vendor selling sunglasses which we bought just so we could buy something! After visiting the Supermarket, we went back to the Hotel to get ready for our "Athens By Night" tour. We had been led to believe that the tour would include visiting the Acropolis for the Sound and Light Spectacular followed by a night of Greek Dancing and Entertainment. Well the most we saw of the Acropolis was from miles away, a tiny spot in the distance. The Greek Dancing night was good and enjoyed the meal and the entertainment but felt the tour itself was a giant rip-off as we could have gone to the show ourselves. The show ended really late and it was after 1.00am by the time our driver negotiated the Saturday night traffic which was horrendous.
