We left Victoria, TX about 9:00am heading to Jamaica Beach RV Park in Galveston, TX. It rained on us most of the way. Not exactly what we were expecting but it wasn't a bad drive. We had a scare about halfway to JB when the carbon monoxide alarm in the bedroom went off and I couldn't get it to shut off. Gene finally had to pull off the road and get the screw driver out. We never did find out what set it off and now I have another thing to worry about.
As we got closer to JB we had to cross a toll bridge (not NJ prices, only a couple of bucks thank goodness). As we approached the thought occurred to us we might not make it through the gate. The attendant came out to guide us through. He told us the right curb is very high curb so don't let the wheels right up on it. Well we didn't ride over the curb but I think we left a little tire rubber on it as we scooted through. We thought we were going to have to fold in the mirrors but we made it! I'm sure we're not the first RV to take this route so I wonder why it wasn't made just a couple of inches wider! We arrived at Jamaica Beach about 12:30pm.
The park is located about 12 miles west of Galveston and just across the street from the gulf. What a view we are going to have from our front yard! Another treat, they serve a free waffle breakfast every Wednesday and Saturday!
The car, the bicycles we carry on a rack and the RV were sooooooooo dirty when we arrived! The car was so bad I didn't even want to touch the handle to open the door. We inquired about washing the RV and found they do have a park resident that washes RV's. Hopefully she will be able to wash it in the next couple of days. We got the utilities connected, settled in and immediately headed into Galveston to find a car wash.
We got the car all cleaned up and set out to explore Galveston. We stopped for lunch at McAlister's Deli in Galveston on Seawall Blvd. I was expecting it to be more like Jason's Deli so I was disappointed. After lunch we went back to check out the area surrounding the RV Park and found a place called Nate's and decided to check it out for dinner.
Nate's serves a Senior lunch special and extends the price until 6:00pm, what a deal. We both ordered the Parmesan Chicken and neither of could eat it all. We boxed it up and took it home for lunch tomorrow! Hey, you do what you can when you're on a fixed income! We will definitely be going back to Nate's for lunch/dinner. They also have a nice little bar facing the beach and have Bloody Mary Sundays and Margarita Mondays, yum yum!
