Rabbit On The Campus Walk

Patricia & Byron

We have spent a wonderful week in west Texas with our host Patricia's brother Byron. Our tour of Odessa and Midland was basically driving around with Byron and sightseeing. On Thursday while driving around Midland we came upon the George H.W. Bush home where they raised young Bush's in the 1950's. Out of that home and hometown two presidents and a governor of Florida spent part of their childhoods.

Odessa has numerous painted jack rabbits placed around town similar to the painted bears in Cherokee, NC.(entry #33). The University of Texas Permian Basin has a Stonehenge replica on the campus as well as a wildlife walk. Rabbits, burrowing owls and prairie dogs were all spotted on our walk.

On Saturday I played golf at Ratliff Ranch Golf Links for a taste of west Texas links golf. Not the lush south Florida golf course I used to play and we played in a strong steady wind but enjoyable anyway. Thanks to Brian for setting it up.

Our grateful thanks to Byron for his hospitality, we enjoyed spending the week with him at his home. We leave Monday for New Mexico stay tuned...
