Today we made a return trip into DC to the Smithsonian National Museum on American History. This is one of my favorite of all the museums commented Gene. This is our second trip to the museum since we didn't get to see all the displays the first time. I can now really appreciate our American History and the price paid for our freedom. This is the greatest country and I am proud to be an American.
Today we got to see the history of the American Presidency, the First Ladies gowns shoes, purse, and jewelry that they wore to their Inaugural Ball including Michelle Obama's. The 1st time we went to this gallery, it was so crowded we could not even get in to see anything. So I was happy that I could comfortably walk around to see all of the First Ladies gowns on display. We also saw the ruby shoes that Judy Garland wore in the movie "The Wizard of Oz". Of course, I also got to see my favorite section, Julia Child's Kitchen. Talk about a fully equipped kitchen, this is it!!
We also learned about the life of the African-American slaves before the emancipation proclamation set them free. We saw how science and inventions made progress in our country. The making of the Atomic bomb and the nuclear age. We were in the museum for almost 6 hours. It was a cool overcast day,but we are expecting rain this evening.
Vicki prepared some ono spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. She also baked a custard pie for coffee and dessert. Very delicious! ....(gene & carol)
