We had a great day today visiting Tybee Island. Tybee Island is near the city of Savannah. It is the easternmost point in the state of Georgia.
We have been hearing a lot about Tybee lately. In the summer of 2009 a movie crew invaded Tybee’s beautiful beaches to make a movie called “The Last Song”. The movie called for scenes with a carnival surrounding a fictitious 37th annual Tybee Island Seafood Festival, staring Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear. Tybee Island jumped on the idea and decided to have a real Food Festival. They called it their First, 37th Annual Seafood Festival. :-)
We planned to check it out but could not find a parking spot anywhere near it. We did ride by and snap a few pictures. We enjoyed the beaches and a beautiful lighthouse. The Tybee Island Light Station has been guiding mariners into the Savannah River for over 270 years. It is one of America’s most intact having all of its historic support buildings on its five-acre site. Rebuilt several times the current lightstation displays its 1916 day mark with 178 stairs and a First Order Fresnel lens (nine feet tall).
We enjoyed our visit and would definitely return. More later from Georgia.
