Happy Trails with Sandy and Bill travel blog

Last night I checked the weather on the internet and found it wasn't very good. We turned on the weather channel and saw that a tornado had gone thru a trailer park in Missouri and the RV's were upside down, etc. Not a pretty sight!! Our travel software gave us 2 options. We could go north out of Oklahoma City to I-64 or we could continue on I-40 to I-81. With the weather forecasts for the northern route not looking good, we opted to stay on I-40. When we woke this morning, we heard the wind was going to be bad again. However, a cold front was coming in and it was going to be in the 20's tonight in Amarillo. Had we not wanted and needed to get back to VA we probably would have just stayed in Amarillo. That would have been the smart thing to do. Instead, we hitched up the horses to the wagon and took off. Yesterday we had westerly winds that were pretty much pushing us but today was a northerly wind hitting the drivers side. Bill had to be very careful when the big gusts hit but he did fine. We decided to stop around 7:00 at at a KOA in Sallisaw and it is probably one of the nicest KOA's I have seen. It has a lot of nature trails and the girls have had a good time running and playing after being cooped up in the MH for a couple of days. A traveler in the park heading west told us we were now behind the storms and the wind would be pushing us again but not as strong. When we got gas today, we had gotten over 11 mpg which Bill liked. I told him to enjoy driving on the interstate now because once we leave GA, we are going to be taking the back roads. We won't have to be in a hurry and we can just stop and go as we please. That's the way RVing should be and I will be glad when we can finally do it the right way. In the meantime, we will try again tomorrow to make it closer to VA. Until we meet again...
