Malawi clothes market

We arrived at Kande beach today on the shores of Lake Malawi (which feels much more like a sea and the waves are stronger here than anywhere else we have seen) and settled in for our three day stay. On the first day we went into Kande village and got a tour around by the chiefs son of his house, the orphanage and day care centre, primary school and hospital. It was really good to see how the people of Malawi live. At the day care centre the kids (between 2 and 5 years old) sang us songs and did role plays of their English and we played with them afterwards. At the school the kids were queuing to hold our hands, our driver said that they would be very excited to see what white people feel like so lots of kids also just touched us as we walked past. We saw the facilities in the school and Hayley took a few addresses of the kids so they could write. It was all really good, but did feel a bit rushed and didn't go into quite as much detail as we would have liked, but was a really good experience nonetheless.

Back at the beach Anthony and the boys hired canoes to go to the island in the middle of the lake (they didnt quite make it to Mozambique) and we all did fancy dress in clothes we had picked up for each other in the Malawian clothes market, which resulted in a pretty drunken evening drinking punch (without the same rule enforcement as we are accustomed to) and trying to get through horrible local gin.
