We only stayed in Bullhead City 1 nite and then headed into Nevada. I forgot to mention that when we drove thru western AZ we were traveling at around 4000 to 5000 feet in elevation. Between Kingman, AZ and Bullhead City the map showed a pass at 3700 ft. That struck me odd as it was lower than most of AZ. But we dropped down into Kingman and then had to climb a ways to get over this small mountain. But once we went over that pass the sign said 6% downgrade next 12 miles. Wow did that diesel engine scream going down that hummer. A 6% grade doesn’t sound like much but with that heavy trailer pushin us hittin 65 mph is nothing in just a short distance. Riding the brakes is incredibly stupid and we are fortunate that the engine in this truck will take pushing the redline and keeps us at a nice 45 - 50 mph as we go down. The Colorado River is at 500’ elevation so was quite a drop. What that meant tho was a looooong climb out in the morning.
But twas a beautiful day for climbing so away we went. I just putt up at 30 mph or so, hell we got nowhere to go in a hurry anyway and it is a 4 lane highway. We drove thru Searchlight, NV. Not much of a place. Couple of gas stations, a McDonalds and a casino. Little did we know that this was the hometown of the Dem. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. And we just heard yesterday that Sarah Palin and her Bozo Followers were going to invade the town today to whine and piss and moan about how horrible us Dems are. Screw her.
We got around Vegas just fine. No inclination at all to stop. We meandered on to Pahrump. This is just over the mountains to the east about 60 miles from Vegas. Another climb up and drop down into the Pahrump Valley. We are told that a lot of people work in Vegas and live in Pahrump and drive the 60 miles one way each day. Yuuuk.
We are at another Escapee park. This one is about 6 miles from town. Only there is no town, it is a township. Tho there is a built up area that looks like a town, several casinos, fast food joints and all that go with it for a couple miles. Strange place. Zoning is obviously a little wacky as everything is a hodge podge of development. We knew there was something funny when we were watching tv the first nite and a station was covering the local town board meeting. Just like Alden, they were discussing the cemetery fees. Sheesh it droned on and on and I had to watch it as it brought back old memories of town board meeting days for me when I used ta be a supervisor.
Nothing too exciting about Pahrump. Went to the local museum, didn’t learn much about the local history. Guess it used to have a lot of agriculture in the valley, especially cotton, but that is gone now. We have been here for 2 nites and are leaving tomorrow for DEATH Valley Nat. Park. Don’t know if we will have internet in there so figured I’d update today as one never knows when one enters DEATH Valley if one will return!! Baaa Baaa Boooooom, Dummm, Dummm, Duuuuummmm. That’s spose to be scary music, well what do you expect, I never was very musical. Little sister got all that.
